On Change

An introduction

Hello there! My name is Adelaide and I’m a Psychotherapist based in London.

I am continually inspired by how people manage to live through and recover from the hardest challenges that life could possibly throw at them. I regularly play a game with myself whilst commuting on the Underground where I imagine the life stories of the strangers sat opposite me, picturing what losses they have endured and the people that may have broken their heart. I also think about the incredible resources these strangers must have drawn on throughout their lives which have enabled them to get to this very moment on the Piccadilly Line in one piece.

In the UK, painfully long waiting lists for mental health support continue to leave people at a loss for where to turn for help. Although a newsletter cannot bridge the gap in public services, I am hoping to share what I continue to learn through my studies and experiences with therapy. I have witnessed the processes of acceptance, healing and change from my clients, colleagues, academic tutors and personal therapy. I am also very willing to ask a woman on the Underground who just glows with joy “what practical steps could someone take to be joyful like you?”
